Art and DT
For the subjects of Art and Design and Technology we follow a split curriculum. This means each subject is taught for half a term at a time. This ensures the time is given to work on projects and allow children to develop their skills week on week.
Art
We follow the Access Art Curriculum which:

Helps primary schools deliver a rich and exciting visual arts curriculum which meets the needs of the current National Curriculum for Art.

Enables teachers to grow in understanding, experience and confidence when teaching art, by supporting staff in how best to teach visual arts.

Sets a bench mark for excellence in art teaching, so schools can be proud of their creative curriculum, and pupils and teachers can enjoy the journey and outcomes.
AccessArt was founded in 1999 by Paula Briggs and Sheila Ceccarelli, graduates of the Royal College of Art Sculpture School. In 2004 AccessArt became a charity (Registered Number 1105049), with the aim of furthering advancement in the visual arts.
AccessArt is now the leading provider of digital visual arts resources in the UK, providing inspiration and ideas to the whole community. Their reputation has been built through the vision and hard work of the directors, team and trustees, together with the support of the creative community of over 16,000 artists, teachers and facilitators who use our resources and who also actively contribute their ideas.
ART WEEK 2023
As a culmination of our Art Week we opened up the Felsted Primary School Gallery to visitors on the 31st March. Our visitors were very impressed with the quality of work shown and also the mature way the children talked about what they had been doing.

Design and Technology
We follow the Kapow scheme of work for DT.
The Design and technology scheme of work aims to inspire pupils to be innovative and creative thinkers who have an appreciation for the product design cycle through ideation, creation, and evaluation. We want pupils to develop the confidence to take risks, through drafting design concepts, modelling, and testing and to be reflective learners who evaluate their work and the work of others. Through our scheme of work, we aim to build an awareness of the impact of design and technology on our lives and encourage pupils to become resourceful, enterprising citizens who will have the skills to contribute to future design advancements.
Our Design and technology scheme of work enables pupils to meet the end of key stage attainment targets in the National curriculum and the aims also align with those in the National curriculum. EYFS (Reception) units provide opportunities for pupils’ to work towards the
Development matters statements and the Early Learning Goals.
Kapow Primary is an Artsmark partner and is able to support schools on their Artsmark journey, inspiring children and young people to create, experience, and participate in great arts and culture.
